Why you'd want to live in Plaza Midwood
Plaza Midwood is a trendy, laid-back neighborhood known for its nightlife. On one block, you’ll find historic homes and office spaces beneath a canopy of century-old trees; on the next, graffiti-covered consignment shops selling second-hand goods and plenty of low-key dive bars and intimate music venues. There’s also a vibrant restaurant scene featuring comfort food eateries, barbecue joints, gastropubs and several popular ice-cream shops. Shops range from consignment and vintage clothing to records and locally made artisan goods and jewelry. Also a historical district, Plaza Midwood began in the early 1900s - circa 1903, as the signs say - as Charlotte's first streetcar suburb. The streetcar ran from uptown, down Central Avenue and up The Plaza. It was among Charlotte's most thriving suburbs through the 1950s. In the late 1970s, as a highway was being planned to run through the area, neighbors banded together and formed the still strong Plaza Midwood Neighborhood Association . In the years since, Plaza Midwood has seen significant rejuvenation while holding on to its historic charm.
