Historic charm, a bustling downtown, that small town feel -there is much to LOVE about Matthews. Once a sleepy rail town, Matthews has blossomed into a bustling hub with a sportsplex, greenways and parks. Set between Charlotte (southeast of Uptown) and Monroe, it was home to just under 200 residents when chartered in 1879. The history of this once-sleepy borough is beautifully preserved in downtown Matthews, where an old rail car, hardware store and history museum now mingle with a larger strip of up-and-coming bars, coffee shops, restaurants, taphouses and even a local playhouse to bring out the inner thespians of all ages!
